Tony is top of Tykes’ list

bigt 9 posts

Apparently Tony Adams is at the top of the list to take over at Barnsley.  Although he was a fantastic player and is a recognizable name, I think we need someone with a bit more experience to get us out of this mess. What does everyone else think?

Hi bigt,

I know what your saying there, but i don't know who i could recommend for the job, as long as its not Ryan Kidd (No offence there Ryan) but we do need an established manager.

I would love to see Danny Wilson back, but I don't think that will happen. Paul Jewell would be my pick, but can we afford him and would he go to Barnsley?

Looks like they have made an official approach to the Rotherham Manager Robbins

KIDD: Wanted

Wednesday September 2,2009

BRIAN KIDD faces a dilemma over his future after being offered a return to management with Barnsley.

Kidd, former Manchester United No2, is top of Barnsley’s wanted list   to replace the sacked Simon Davey.

But he is reluctant to return to frontline management following his nightmare experience at Blackburn. He has also been offered a return to the game with Manchester City, where Mark Hughes wants him to head up the club’s academy.

Kidd will spend the next week deciding whether to accept the job at Oakwell. Paul Jewell and Mark Robins have already ruled themselves out of the position and Barnsley owner Patrick Cryne will turn his attentions to ex-Watford boss Aidy Boothroyd if Kidd decides to decline his offer. Davey, meanwhile, has been left a ’broken man’ in the wake of his dismissal following four straight defeats.

Defender Bobby Hassell said: “It was a very emotional time for everyone. All the lads were holding back the tears, you could tell he was a broken man. “It was a really sad day for everyone. You could see the emotion in the man.

“The gaffer will get criticised for our poor results, but if any of the fans could have seen the scenes in our dressing room with us they’d realise how much this job meant to him.”

Story in "The Sun" this morning.

"Incey swell for Oakwell"

BARNSLEY want Paul Ince to be their new boss.

The Championship club axed Simon Davey on Sunday and have put MK Dons manager Ince top of their wishlist.

SunSport understands the Oakwell outfit have already sounded out the former Blackburn chief's representatives.

Ince, 41, only returned to the Dons in the summer - a year after quitting to take charge at Rovers.

He lasted just six months at Blackburn but is still regarded as one of the country's most promising young bosses.

Looks like an announcement on Robbins is imminent. The Barnsley board are now due to speak to his backroom staff too. I would have loved to see Winny get a role back at the club, at least for a couple of years to help with the youth and development.

Robins appointed Barnsley boss

September 9, 2009

Barnsley have confirmed Mark Robins as their new manager after they reached a compensation package with Rotherham.
The 39-year-old was placed on gardening leave by the Millers last week after expressing his desire to speak to the League Championship club. And the move has now been completed after the two clubs settled on a figure to secure Robins' release from United.
The former Manchester United striker, who spent two-and-a-half years in charge of Rotherham, replaces Simon Davey at Oakwell following his departure on August 29.
Robins takes his backroom staff of John Breckin, Steve Taylor and Nick Daws with him
